The Ultimate Thailand Getaway Guide with a Big Travel Girl Group
Come adventure through the heart of Thailand! This group itinerary is designed to guide you through a mesmerizing blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. I went on this trip with 7 girl friends and we backpacked throughout the journey. We chose not to have a luggage rolled around for a hassle free travel especially if you want to be flexible getting around. With a big girl trip, you might be thinking, “how???” well everyone got along so well, so that is the major key to the trip! Travel with friends that will all get a long!
Day 1: Unveiling the Past in Ayutthaya
Start your journey by time-traveling to the ancient city of Ayutthaya, This is just a short train ride from Bangkok, Don’t miss the iconic Wat Mahathat, where you can snap that surreal photo with the Buddha head entwined in tree roots.
Travel Tip: Stay hydrated! Thailand’s heat can be intense. Keep water bottles handy and embrace the power of sunscreen.
Day 2-3: Bangkok: Grand Palace & Khaosan Road
See the Grand Palace that’s home to the sacred Emerald Buddha. As you wander through its amazing halls and stunning temples, you’ll feel like royalty yourselves.
While in Bangkok, dive into the city’s famous street food scene. My favorite is the green mango with fish paste!
Travel Tip: Dress modestly when visiting the Grand Palace and other temples, covering shoulders and knees out of respect for local customs. You will not be allowed if dressed inappropriately. There are cover ups to rent in the surrounding areas in the case that you need additional coverings.
Day & Night life: Khaosan Road
Khaosan Road is a long street in Bangkok, Thailand's Phra Nakhon District, that's famous for backpackers and many tourists. It's close to the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew, and is known for its budget accommodations, lively nightlife, and street food. At night, the street transforms with live music, bars and clubs. The party is always getting started!
Day 4-5: Chiang Mai: Cultural Immersion & Excursions
Fly north from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, where culture and adventure await. Participate in an ethical elephant feeding program, followed by a scenic hike to Maewang Waterfall after feeding and joining the elephants for a mud spa - it’s a heartwarming experience you’ll never forget! These elephants are huge so make sure you keep enough distance and don’t get stepped on!
Travel Tip: When choosing animal encounters, always opt for ethical sanctuaries that prioritize the welfare of the animals.
Day 6: Wat Phra That Doi Suthep and Tiger Encounter
Wat Phra That Doi Suthep
No visit to Chiang Mai is complete without trekking up to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, one of Thailand's most revered temples. As you climb the Naga dragon staircase to the top, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views and a serene atmosphere that's perfect for a moment of reflection.
Travel Tip: Be prepared for the climb by wearing comfortable shoes. Trust me, the view and the experience are worth every step.
Tiger Kingdom
The idea of being an inch away from a tiger is quite scary but I tested my courageous self to do this! One of the most unique and intriguing experiences in Chiang Mai is a visit to the Tiger Kingdom. This facility provides a rare opportunity to get up close and personal with one of nature’s most majestic creatures: the tiger.
Tiger Kingdom has consistently stated that their tigers are not sedated or drugged. They explain that the seemingly docile nature of the tigers during visitor interactions is due to the animals being hand-raised by humans from a young age, which acclimates them to human presence. Additionally, the institution claims to follow strict regulations regarding the health and welfare of the tigers, including limiting the amount of time each tiger spends interacting with visitors to ensure they are not overstressed.
However, these claims have been met with skepticism by animal rights organizations and some tourists, who argue that the behavior of the tigers in such settings is not natural and raises concerns about their well-being.
I was inside the spacious cage with 4-5 roaming tigers that seemed alert, and I could only last for less than 5 minutes and tapped out from the thrill.
Day 7-8: Phuket: Ferry Ride
After Chiang Mai, we flew to Phuket and stayed for only one night since our intention was to catch the Ferry from Phuket to Koh Phi Phi Island the next morning. Below are some recommendation of things to do if you decide to extend your stay:
How to take the Ferry from Phuket to Koh Phi Phi Island:
You can either take the ferry or a speed boat to get to Koh Phi Phi Island. We chose the ferry since it was a lot bigger and travel time for an hour wasn’t too bad either.
Additional tips:
Advance Booking: Especially during peak season, book your ferry tickets in advance to secure your spot and avoid last-minute hassles. you can also check the ferry schedule here.
Check the Weather: Sea conditions can affect ferry schedules. Always check the weather forecast before your trip.
Arrive Early: Get to the pier early to ensure you have plenty of time for boarding procedures and any last-minute changes.
Pack Essentials: Bring sunscreen, water, snacks, and motion sickness medication if you’re prone to seasickness. They sell these in the ferry as well.
Stay Informed: Keep updated on local travel advisories and communicate with your accommodation for any transportation tips or arrangements.
Day 9-10: Koh Phi Phi: Island Hopping Adventure
Now the island fun begins! Finish your adventure with some island hopping. Whether you’re snorkeling in crystal-clear waters, sunbathing on white sandy beaches, or dancing the night away at a beach party, Thailand’s islands offer the perfect backdrop for unforgettable memories with your girls. We booked a shared boat tour that took us to 3-4 different island and they also provided food and a kayak for us to tour around.
• Maya Bay Island
• Monkey Island
• Bamboo Island
This was an unforgettable travel experience with a group of 7 girls. I hope your next group trip is as awesome as mine! Happy traveling!
